The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 107

History

The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 107, Chase BC was chartered, May 26th, 1930.

There were nine charter members, most of whom have been confirmed as Veterans, with the original home being established in the Black Douglas Hall (previously an opera and live theatre house, and situated roughly where the fire hall sits). The Ladies Auxiliary (LA) was chartered August 6th, 1947 (fifteen charter members). The original hall burned down in early 1957, and the current Branch was opened in 1958, with an addition being constructed in the early 1970s. The Branch celebrated its 75th anniversary in May 2005.

Organization

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 107, Chase, is a member–based community organization dedicated to supporting our Veterans, promoting Remembrance and serving our communities.

Our membership consists of residents, including service personnel, from Chase and surrounding communities who volunteer their time to help local Veterans, and raise funds to support essential services and organizations within our communities. This not-for-profit organization has an elected, volunteer Executive Committee, and is affiliated with The Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon Command and the Legion’s national leadership body Dominion Command.

The Royal Canadian Legion is devoted to supporting the men and women who served our country and put their lives on the line for our freedoms and way of life. Our Branch provides representation, support and assistance to local Veterans and their families.

We understand the importance of honouring past sacrifices and acknowledging the courage of those who served and still serve today. Through Remembrance Day ceremonies, the Poppy campaign, and commemorative activities at local schools (Chase, Sorrento, Celista, Adams Lake, Notch Hill, Chase Secondary School), Branch 107 helps to honour and remember.

We are also dedicated to supporting Youth Leadership programs such as Cadets and Youth Sports. Each year we provide Bursaries to qualifying students residing within our service area.

Branch 107 is located centrally, across the street from the Creekside Seniors Centre and just down from the Community Hall and the Chase Library. A safe, secure place, a great meeting place to connect with neighbours and friends, meeting new folks, with everyone enjoying the social environment and friendly, fun atmosphere.

Social activities are a very important part of the Branch Monthly Calendar, with sports activities that include Dart Leagues, Cribbage, and fun darts, pool, billiards, along with an annual Golf Tournament. Free gift card draws on Tuesdays; and Meat, Card and 50/50 Draws on Saturdays, along with in-house food services offering Snacks, Hot Dogs, Burger Nites, Sliders, Tacos, Dinners, and monthly Birthday Cakes to share. A monthly (excluding July and August) Coffee House showcasing local area musicians has proven to be very popular and successful. Dances with bands provide another way to enjoy the evening with friends. Our Annual Veterans Dinner assures that we “Remember” those who served Canada. We celebrate Robbie Burns every year, which includes a dinner; participate in the Canada Day Celebrations, the Annual Poppy Campaign, and the Remembrance Day Ceremony. We hold Legion Week activities for families, with lots of fun and games, with take take-away goodies for kids.

Special Events include the BC Children’s Variety Telethon annual Dart Tournament and Auction Fundraiser, Robbie Burns Dinner, Grey Cup Celebration, Veterans dinner, and an annual Shuswap Legions’ Poker Ride and Fundraiser.

The Branch continues a proud tradition, while honouring Veterans with a double heritage, thanks to both the Branch Members and the former Ladies Auxiliary membership. We celebrate comradeship, friendship, volunteers providing a safe, secure, friendly gathering place, a welcoming environment, friendly conversations, social interaction with fun games available, and a great central community location serving not only Veterans and their families but also to the larger community. The Chase Legion donates tens of thousands of dollars every year. In the past decade, over $215,000 has been raised and donated locally through the ongoing work by Branch 107 volunteers.

We welcome all ages, although youth under 19 must be accompanied by an adult, as per BC Liquor License and Laws.

Legion Membership is open to the general public; with membership being free in 2026 as part of the Centenary Celebration.

100 Years of Service

For 100 years, The Royal Canadian Legion has stood as a champion for Veterans, their families, and the communities they call home. From advocating for care and services for those who served, to honouring the Fallen through Remembrance, the Legion has strengthened Canada’s national identity and community spirit.

Connecting Canadians with the Legion’s mission

Since 1926, The Royal Canadian Legion has served Veterans, their families, and communities while keeping the memory of their sacrifices alive. Adapting to each new generation, it has modernized Veteran support, expanded online Remembrance initiatives, and created ways for Canadians to connect with its mission. On July 17, 2026, the Legion celebrated its 100th anniversary, a century of dedication made possible by volunteers and Branches across the country and abroad. This milestone not only honours their commitment but also inspires future generations to carry forward the Legion’s mission and ensure Canada’s Veterans are never forgotten.
